The New X-Men are new again?

Negasonic Teenage Warhead is appearing in the Deadpool movie.

E is For Extinction is a Secret Wars Warzone book coming this summer from Chris Burnham and Ramon Villalobos.

When Grant Morrison took over the Children of the Atom, he brought an incredible edge to the franchise, putting them in black leather, started a telepathic love triangle and co-created some strange new mutants in the New X-Men era and let’s not forget…Xorn and killing Jean Grey…again.

Rick Remender brought Fantomex to the Uncanny X-Force and he’s become a fixture of Psylocke’s love life.

Angel Salvadore (played by Zoe Kravitz) buzzed in X-Men: First Class.

Quentin Quire (aka Kid Omega) was a central figure of Wolverine and the X-Men by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour.

If we’re bringing back a mutant who only made a real appearance in one issue (although NTW did appear as a memory manifested of Emma’s telepathic guilt projection) let’s bring back more of these unusual (even for X-Men) mutants in movies or books.

Glob Herman is made of “living wax” and bio-paraffin body is completely transparent exposing his internal organs but he has great strength. Glob was a member of Quire’s Omega Gang to who took over the school in Riot at Xavier’s.

Update: I asked if Glob was due for a comeback. Thanks to clever X-fan and Comics Blend reader Arthur Stacy for pointing out Glob is in the cast of the current Spider-Man and the X-Men and was in Wolverine and the X-Men. Glob seems like he’d be a good fit in Deadpool’s world – maybe more of the Omega Gang will make the cut?

Dust. Sooraya Qadir is a Sunni Muslim girl who can turn her body into sand (much like the Spidey villain Sandman) who was rescued by Wolverine from slave traders in Afghanistan. Dust worn traditional garb which brought her into conflict with her school roommate Noriko but she would find her way among the mutant students.

Ernst. A young girl who looked as if she had progeria. The mysteriously named girl is a real mystery: no one really knows her origin or exact powers except for superstrength which she’s never demonstrated. She’s best known for befriending No-Girl (Martha Johansson) who is just a mutant brain.

John Sublime is not a mutant but a bacteria who became a main villain in the Morrison era. Sublime is a sentient bacteria from the beginnings of life on Earth who infected other lifeforms until the rise of mutants who were resistant. Sublime was behind the Weapon Plus Project overseeing the creation of Captain America, Wolverine and more. Sublime started a TransSpecies Movement to insure mutant extermination. Sublime’s U-Men hunted mutants and took their body parts and grafted them onto their bodies in order to become mutants. Sublime even took the form of the addictive drug Kick which infected young mutants. Sublime returned in the all-female X-Men book asking for the mutants help to stop his sister, Arkea, a technological bacteria from conquering Earth.

It was an era of strange new creations, some have stayed, some have been forgotten but the New X-Men era still makes a huge impact on on the Marvel Universe. Negasonic Teenage Warhead seems like a good fit for Deadpool. Maybe the Merc with the Mouth will help bring back even more obscure mutants to top of our minds again.

You have to admit – how would Deadpool fight a sentient bacteria?
