Among the recent excitement for the Deadpool trailer and X-Men: Apocalypse previews, X-Fans may have forgotten there’s a New Mutants movie in the works.
Director and co-writer Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) gave fans a big reminder via Instagram showing his progress on the script.
“#X-Men #NewMutants not done yet but we have a lot of pages”
Boone is co-writing with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler-Donner are producing the potential spinoff. No official date has been set yet.
This third generation of Professor Xavier’s students was born in the New Mutants graphic novel by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. The original New Mutants were Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane and Karma. Magma and Magik (Colossus’s sister) were introduced later. There have been three volumes of the book.
Sunspot was played by Adan Canto in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
In the comics a teenage Kitty Pryde often called the New Mutants the “X-babies” and didn’t want join them after already being a member of the X-Men. Kitty and Magik would grow to become best friends.
