New MARVEL Movies & Series Revealed

Disney Investor Day delivered massive news for comics and sci-fi fans. The company’s announcements included ten new Marvel projects including blockbuster news of a Fantastic surprise.

Here’s a breakdown of the new shows and movies based on Marvel:

SECRET INVASION

Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn return as Nick Fury and Talos the Skrull from CAPTAIN MARVEL in this new Disney+ series. You may remember the alien Skrulls may look reptilian but they have the ability to shapeshift and look human.

The comic book SECRET INVASION series was the climax of years of story arcs in which Skrulls had infiltrated every superhero team, government agency and even the bad guys weren’t spared from the master plan. The Skrulls are also genetic manipulators. The Super-Skrull has the powers of all the Fantastic Four members.

In SECRET INVASION, an army of Skrulls with the abilities of multiple heroes conquers Earth. This is the series that introduced the Secret Warriors, a group of super powered kids Nick Fury recruited when he knew he couldn’t trust anyone.

IRONHEART

Dominque Thorne will play Riri Williams aka Ironheart in a new Disney + series. In the comics Williams is a teen inventor who inherits Tony Stark’s legacy with her own armored suit.

ARMOR WARS

Don Cheadle will suit up again as James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine in this new Disney + series. Based on the Iron Man story, Rhodes will track down the stolen tech and armor being used by a rogues gallery of villains.

THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Director James Gunn returns to Marvel with this Disney + special before working on Volume Three of the film franchise.

I AM GROOT

The lovable alien sidekick from Guardians of the Galaxy will star in a series of animated shorts on Disney+

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will return as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne in the third film. Lang’s daughter Cassie will be all grown up but the big question: will she suit up as her alter ego: Stature?

With the Quantum Realm playing a bigger role in this threequel, Marvel recruits a classic Avengers villain: Kang the Conqueror. Jonathan Majors will play the time traveling super villain. In the comics Kang is Nathaniel Richards, a possible descendant of Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. Another Kang alter ego is Iron Lad who formed the Young Avengers which included Cassie Lang/Stature.

FANTASTIC 4

We knew it would eventually happen but it will still a surprise. Marvel’s First Family will become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts, director of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME and the upcoming third Marvel/Sony Spidey film, will direct the new Fantastic Four movie.
