We know know the code-name of Marvel’s next generation hero.
Tony Stark’s successor as Iron Man will be a teenager girl named Riri Williams.
Marvel revealed her code-name (via Wired) will be Ironheart.
The 15 year old genius appeared in the current Invincible Iron Man #7 and impressed Stark after building her own armor
Ironheart will be the star of the relaunching Invincible Iron Man with Brian Michael Bendis still writing and joined by artist Stefano Caselli.
Bendis revealed how Marvel selected this code-name for Stark’s successor.
“Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some. Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare,” Bendis told Wired. “And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada (Chief Creative Officer of Marvel), after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole.”
“Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related,” Bendis contined. “When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was.”
Williams will star in Invincible Iron Man. Doctor Doom will be the Infamous Iron Man.
So where does Tony Stark fit in?
No word yet on Stark’s role in the Marvel Universe following Civil War II, where he’s locked in battle with Captain Marvel and coping with the death of one of his oldest friends. Plus, Stark is reeling after learning who his real biological parents are.
Invincible Iron Man #1 starring Ironheart arrives November.
