A new Iron Man arrives for the Marvel Now!

Marvel announced via Time that Riri Williams will become the new star of Invincible Iron Man. The new character will armor up when Tony Stark is out in the aftermath of Civil War II.

There’s no official word yet on if Stark will quit, be forced out or possibly die in the superhero conflict.

Riri is an African-American teen genius at MIT who grabs Stark’s attention when she builds her own Iron Man suit…in her dorm.

Riri is just one of several new young and diverse heroes arriving with the Marvel Now! initiative of books following Civil War II.

Brian Michael Bendis is co-creating Iron Man’s replacement. Bendis co-created Miles Morales, the first African-American Spider-Man.

Bendis is currently writing three big stories all involving Tony Stark:

Tony lost his best friend in Civil War II.

Tony’s company is crashing and he’s at war with the Inhumans and Captain Marvel.

Tony is searching for the identity of his biological parents.
All those stories are being written by Bendis who is paving the way for Stark’s departure and Williams’s takeover as the new Armored Avenger.

Bendis is also writing International Iron Man in which Stark will learn the truth about his parents. No word on if that title will continue with the Marvel Now! initiative.

Stefano Caselli joins Bendis for the new Invincible Iron Man this Fall.
