Will Kitty Pryde take on a new code-name and sport a different look soon?
The X-Woman formerly known as Shadowcat has been simply Kitty Pryde for quite a while now.
But that could be changing according to All-New and Uncanny X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis.
A fan asked the writer about a new costume for Kitty on X-Position.
“We have not seen one. There hasn’t been time for it — not that it won’t happen. But let’s say, I’m going to make a promise here to myself and to you, that whatever happens in the Kitty/Illyana adventures, she’ll come out of it with a new identity,” Bendis replied on Comic Book Resources.
When Kitty first joined the X-Men she went through several code-names and costumes including Sprite and Ariel.
In the Wolverine and Kitty Pryde limited series she became Shadowcat during the adventure in Japan in which she and Logan took on Ogun. Kitty and Logan just reunited in Japan to face his demon mentor in Death of Wolverine #3. Could this set the stage for the return of the Shadow Cat?
Kitty is also in a long-distance “relationship” with Star-Lord. An attraction sparked between the X-Woman and Guardian of the Galaxy during a recent crossover and they’ve “dated” via holographic projection. Kitty may take a cue from Storm who reverted back to her mohawk style and attitude after a romantic encounter with Wolverine. But will Kitty turn to Peter Quill, her ex-Colossus or someone new?
The Illyana factor is a wild card. When you’re best friend is a demon sorceress who’s been reborn multiple times it’s bound to have an impression. With the All-New X-Men split among dimensions – it could be up to Kitty and Illyana to rescue Jean Grey from the Ultimate Universe – what if she’s impacted by her Ultimate counterpart?
Bendis teased a “completely different” X-Men following the team’s encounter with a mutant Professor X kept hidden for years. Could this change in the X-Men status quo include a major change/costume/code-name and role for Kitty Pryde?
I’m a huge fan of the Shadowcat identity but code-name or not – I love Kitty Pryde. No sending her off in a space bullet!
