New Comic Book Picks for January 24, 2018

A superhero epic’s final issue. Four new number ones. It’s a big new comic book week.

David Haller leaped from comics to an acclaimed new “is this an X-Men show?” television hit and now he’s back in on the page for mind games in a new book.

LEGION #1 The son of Profesor X possesses multiple personalities each controlling mutant powers. Just when David is coping with his trauma, a new personality emerges threaten to seize all power and David’s mind. X-Men veteran writer Peter Milligan and artist Wilfred Torres.

INHUMANS: JUDGEMENT DAY #1 The Inhuman Family prepare to meet their makers…literally. To get Terrigen to save their race, the Inhumans must steal “fire from the gods” aka Primagen from The Progenitors. The ancient beings arrive on Earth to wipe our their experiments. Can Black Bolt and Medusa save the planet, save their race? Al Ewing brings his Inhumans epic home in a game-changing one-shot with artist Michael del Mundo.

RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS #1 The Titan goes solo in a family fight for a soul and new strange menace. Marv Wolfman and Pop Mhan. In this all-new miniseries, Raven faces a new, otherworldly menace that is all too grounded in reality. Plus, Raven’s personal life is in an uproar as her mother and aunt struggle for the soul of a Titan! It’s up to Baron Winters of the Night Force to intercede on her behalf as she embarks on the adventure called “The Girls With the Anime Eyes”!

DISSONANCE #1 Alternate Earth. The Fantasmen – human/spirit hybrids. Rival siblings seize their parents’ roles in a covert group that rules this strange new world. A Fantasmen warrior on a secret mission to prevent disaster from striking Earth and the universe. Singgih Nugroho and Sami Basri introduce a new sci-fi fantasy from Image Comics.

INVINCIBLE #144 Robert Kirkman brings his superhero epic for a final issue. Artist Ryan Ottley returns to the book he launched with Kirkman along with artists Cory Walker and Nathan Fairbairn for The End of All Things conclusion and final issue.

And while we’re talking about endings. This is the final New Comic Book Day at my friendly neighborhood comic book shop. Zanadu Comics is closing shop after 42 years. Thank you Perry Plush, self proclaimed President and Janitor, for creating a special haven for comic book fans.
