The Avengers are no more when Secret Wars begins this May.
Long live A-Force!
Marvel announced a brand new book starring an all-female Avengers team within Secret Wars Warzones.
“She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and other fan favorites, will take charge,” said Wilson. “We’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of different characters from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies.”
Singularity is a brand new, cosmic powered hero joining the Avenger, X-Man, Inhuman and Nico the Runaway.
What’s in a costume? What does this impressive Jim Cheung cover tell us about the A-Force and the new reality?
When the Marvel Universe is no more, only Battleworld remains filled with realms based on some Marvel’s biggest epics from different time periods.
She-Hulk is sporting her classic Avengers uniform. Dazzler is full-on disco mode from then late 1980’s when she made her X-Men debut, Medusa is in a classic uniform from the Fantastic Four days. Rogue is in her 90’s Jim Lee style, Storm and Jean Grey as Phoenix are back in their Goddess look from the Claremont/Byrne days.
It’s a thrill to see Hellcat, Snowbird and Guardian from Alpha Flight and you can even spot Moondragon from the Avengers era as the supporting cast.
If you can have any Marvel hero from any time period who would you want to see?
Here are our most wanted women we want to see appear in A-Force:
Valkyrie & Misty Knight
The beloved but short-lived Fearless Defenders by Cullen Bunn co-starred the Asgardian warrior and the bionic badass. Val & Misty had a Lethal Weapon like chemistry as they led an all-female team of adventurers. But the love for Val goes way back to The Defenders with Hellcat and of course Misty was part of the Power Man & Iron Fist cast.
Valkyrie embodies duty, regal beauty and honor. She IS worthy.
Misty is as quick with weapons as her sharp wit plus as a Daughter of the Dragon, she’s a skilled martial artist.
Modern day Fearless Defenders or the swinging 1970’s Val and Misty, I’ll take either as awesome additions to the female supergroup.
Shadowcat
Today’s Kitty Pryde is the All-New X-Men teacher and in a cosmic romance with Star-Lord (#StarKat if you want to get hip with the Twitter kids.)
I loved when Kitty became the Shadowcat after Logan’s epic battle with Ogun but there’s an even darker, dangerous Shadowcat from the Age of Apocalypse. This Kitty was an orphan captured by Sabretooth, freed by Colossus, trained by Weapon X (aka this world’s Wolverine) to become a ghost assassin and given claws. Kitty and Colossus married and became the ruthless teachers of Generation X. This is one badass Kitty with claws and she’s not afraid to cut loose like her mentor.
Spider-Girl
Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen and Silk are huge right now with the success of Spider-Verse but there’s Spider-Girl with staying power we’d love to see swing into action;
May “May Day” Parker is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson Parker from Marvel’s MC2 line. She’s the star of the longest running Marvel book starring a female lead.
In the lead up to Secret Wars, Marvel teased (Renew Your Vows) a timeline in which the Parkers remained married and had May Day so it’s possible she could swing into A-Force. Even Karen Gillan expressed her wish to play her. May was the only book to survive the MC2 line. May Day has survived the test of time and fans would delight to see her again as part of this history making Avengers lineup.
Watch for the new team this summer.
Which female Marvel heroes would you like to see in A-Force?
