Here are our ten most anticipated new comics coming in 2016.

Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Alpha

Estranged allies Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are drawn together in a small town with a dark secret that will engulf Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz. Will this be the beginning of Steve Rogers return to being Captain America in the year of the character’s 75th Anniversary? Is this the first salvo in our next pick?

Civil War II

The first Civil War changed the Marvel Universe forever and inspired the next Captain America film. Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez (Invincible Iron Man) will chronicle the follow-up pitting Iron Man against a new Captain America.

Black Panther

T’Challa returns to find a terrorist army and turmoil in his homeland in a brand new series by acclaimed writer Ta Nehesi Coates and fan favorite Batman cover artist Brian Stelfreeze team up for a new ongoing as the hero celebrates his 50th Anniversary and first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016. Coming from Marvel in April.

Black Widow

Natasha Romanoff betrayed and hunted by S.H.I.E.L.D.  Eisner Award Winning Daredevil creative team Mark Waid and Chris Samnee reunite for a brand new ongoing where the former Avenger goes on the lam to uncover who set her up.

The Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade

The back story on one of the greatest epics in comics. This one-shot reveals Batman’s battle with the Joker before the events of The Dark Knight Returns. Dark Knight III: The Master Race collaborators Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello team up with John Romita, Jr for the fate of Jason Todd and Batman’s bloody confrontation with his arch enemy.

Wonder Woman: Earth One

The Amazon warrior in an original graphic novel  by Batman, Incorporated team Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette. What happens when the modern world meets the warrior princess in a new vision of DC’s iconic heroine inspired by her original creator.

4001 AD

The next big event from Valiant Comics by Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain is Rai’s Rebellion millenia into the Valiant Universe.

Faith

The fan-favorite Harbinger team member in her own series. Faith “Zephry” Herbert soars over the City of Angels as its new guardian but a massive alien invasion is coming. Can she handle it alone? Coming in January from Valiant Comics.

Cry Havoc #1 From writer Simon Spurrier (X-Men Legacy, Numbercruncher) and artist Ryan Kelly, a new Image Comics fantasy called “fiends, fragility, and firepower in an all-new series, mixing the hard-boiled militaria of Jarhead with the dark folklore of Pan’s Labyrinth and “This is not the tale of a lesbian werewolf who goes to war. Except it kind of is.”  Coming in January.

Aliens: Defiance A Colonial Marine rookie goes rogue to protect Earth from an invasion of Hollywood’s most terrifying extraterrestrials in a new ongoing by Brian Wood (The Massive) and artist Tristan Jones. Coming from Dark Horse Comics in April.

Joss Whedon’s Twist. That’s all we need, really? Joss Whedon called his heroine “a Victorian, female Batman” when the project was announced at Comic-Con this year. No official word on an artist or release date but let’s hope Dark Horse will deliver this in 2016.
