Fans and readers have spoken. We left out some prominent characters from our first list of top heroes and villains missing from the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now.
After your suggestions and more digging here are more fan-favorites and Marvel mainstays who are MIA so far from this fall’s relaunch:
Cable and Hope! Nathan Summers has been an on-again, off-again hero since his 1990 debut. The son of Scott Summers from the future was last seen leading the latest version of X-Force saving his adopted daughter Hope (also MIA) from same techno-organic virus infected him as a child. The future leader of the war against Apocalypse and the messiah child that reignited the mutant race are not on any of the teams but don’t count them out.
Rachel Grey! The daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey from the Days of Future Past future timeline overcame her tragic “future past” to become a valued teacher at the Jean Grey School and member of Storm’s squad. Like her “brother” from the future – all the future mutants (including Bishop) are MIA but the original X-Men from the past are here to stay.
Gambit! Remy LeBeau was in the most recent version of X-Factor then made a cameo in the final arc of the last X-Men volume. While Remy is not on any X-Men book roster, it’s hard to imagine him off the grid for long especially with a Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum in the works and a thief like Remy would be a powerful agent in the mutant/Inhuman cold war coming this fall.
Namor! Avenger, Defender, X-Man, Illuminati, King, Hero, Villain, Traitor – Namor the Sub-Mariner plays many role but his greatest may have been in Jonathan Hickman’s New Avengers run. Namor’s Game of Thrones style rivalry with Black Panther was legendary and his betrayal of the Illuminati continues in Secret Wars. Namor allied himself with Thanos and a cabal of villains to try and save Earth and now they are some of the only survivors of the now destroyed Marvel multiverse. Namor may not survive to be in the new Marvel but you can bet Hickman will make him part of his cosmic drama with Doom, Reed and Susan Richards as Secret Wars builds to a finale.
Winter Soldier! After the events of Original Sin, Bucky Barnes accepted a new mission making him not just a covert Avenger but a secret spy on a galactic level as Earth’s “man on the wall” protecting against alien invaders. While Sam Wilson will remain Captain America and a powerless, elderly Steve Rogers is a mentor, this other “Cap” is out in the cold but Bucky’s always been playing the villain or playing the anti-hero. If Winter Soldier is keeping his role, he could be a guest star in the new Ultimates books given both of those heroes pro-active agenda against Earth’s would-be invaders.
Fury & Fury! For the whereabouts of the original Nick Fury, see Original Sin, but it looks like the old-school spy is not leaving the moon or where haven’t seen his son in any rosters for the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. books. We do have Dum Dum Dugan (in a way) leading the Howling Commandos.
Stay tune for updates as we get closer to the rebirth of the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now coming this October.
