Three heroic characters will return to the DC Universe with Rebirth.

DC made good on that tease in the DC Universe: Rebirth and then some…

Several classic characters are back but we want more.

Before we reveal the heroes we want to see return as Rebirth continues we want to give you a SPOILER ALERT in case you didn’t read DC Universe: Rebirth.

OK.

Here it comes:

Here’s who made a comeback:

Wally West aka Kid Flash/Flash II was the narrarator of the one-shot who escaped the Speed Force to live again in the Rebirth. He will join the cast of Titans.

Golden Age Johnny Thunder was seen in a senior citizens home.

Jackson Hyde aka Aqualad II is back and coming out of the closet.

Ray Palmer/The Atom send a message of help to apprentice Ryan Choi from the Microverse.

Ted Kord and Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle(s)

A member of the Legion of Super-Heroes may be back. We saw a Legion ring but who did it belong to? Saturn Girl?

The “three heores will return” promise came in the DC Rebirth preview with the cover showing three hourglasses. The front cover broken hourglass released a Rebirth-ed Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Superboy, Robin, Shazam, Aquaman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, new Green Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz plus Kid Flash/West.

The other two hourglasses featured one with Justice League members Batman, Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Wonder Woman, The Atom, Superman, Cyborg and Martin Manhunter and in the final hourglass Justice Society of America members Doctor Fate, The Flash, Green Lantern/Alan Scott, The Atom, Black Canary and Hourman.

Here are characters we want to see return in Rebirth:

Elongated Man

Ralph Dibny…yes a superhero named Ralph. Call me old fashioned and optimistic but Rebirth (while dark at times with an ominous threat “watching” our heroes) seemed to tease a rebirth of hope, forward-thinking heroes and more fun. Ralph and Sue Dibny were the sweet, crime-solving super couple back in the day. Combining his love of chemistry, adventure and detective work, Ralph used a jungle fruit to create a serum giving his incredible ability to stretch and shape his body. The Dibnys’ love story ended in tragedy with Sue’s murder in Identity Crisis, their corpses were turned into Black Lanterns. In The New 52, Ralph was part of the Secret Six. You can come up with any cosmic force you like but we’d love to see this super couple reunited, maybe reincarnated like Hawkman and Hawkwoman.

The Question

Which one you may ask. The original (Victor Sage) detective was a Charlton Comics character relaunched by DC. Gotham City Detective Renee Montoya assumed the role in the 52 weekly series but during The New 52, she was reintroduced as Harvey Bullock’s partner and Sage returned during Trinity War. Montoya’s transformation from disullusioned police officer to mysterious vigilante (not to mention one of the few lesbian superheroes) was a fan-favorite success. With Greg Rucka’s return to DC to relaunch Wonder Woman, could he write a Rebirth for the heroine he co-created?

Zatanna

The powerful sorceress who travels the world with a magic show is a blast. In The New 52 she ditched her top hat and fishnets for a more serious costume, was paired in a relationship with John Constantine and was a member of Justice League Dark in The New 52. Rebirth will have drama and ominous threats but it feels like this new era has a sense of classic characters, hope and more fun. We’d love to see the sorceress rekindle her relationship with Flash, continue her friendship with Black Canary and rejoin the Justice League.
