Marvel rules the global box-office again with Captain America: Civil War. Steve Rogers vs Tony Stark is a dark turn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe setting up the future of Black Panther, Spider-Man and a divided Avengers as a certain super villain plots his universal domination.

Thanos will strike in Avengers Infinity War I & II after playing the secret manipulator in previous films Avengers, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier films included hints of the villain’s quest to collect the Infinity gems.

Before we continue talking about the super villain here’s a SPOILER ALERT in case you have not seen Captain America: Civil War yet.

Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley are working on the cosmic follow-up now but were asked about why the big bad was MIA in Civil War:

“So we didn’t want to play him out and then have people be like, “Eh, more of this guy…” Markus told The Verge.

“Yet again, they gave me 45 seconds of Thanos! That does nobody good. The Civil War story is about this group breaking up on their own accord, and they do not need to be helped by this guy from space.” added McFeeley.

“”We also wanted Civil War to be a very kind of boots-on-the-ground, grounded movie that set the stage for Infinity War, that sets all the Avengers apart from each other and at at their weakest point. So that when this giant purple man does show up, they’re not ready for it.” continued Markus.

Look for Thanos (Josh Brolin) to turn up in Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume II and possibly Black Panther before the disassembled heroes must rally against the Mad God of Titan in Infinity War.
