All those uncanny, influential X-Men epics happened under the watch of Editor Mike Marts, who is back at Marvel after a stellar run as Editor of the Batman Family of Books at DC Comics.

When Marts appeared in X-Position on Comic Book Resources…fans pay attention.

What should X-Men fans expect now Marts is back as an Executive Editor at Marvel? What are the books to watch in 2014?

“The Bendis books, readers will most definitely want to keep their eye on. I’m getting familiar with Jason Latour’s plans [for “Wolverine and the X-Men“], and I would keep an eye on that. There’s a lot coming readers’ way. There are also some interesting changes coming in “Amazing X-Men” that I think will have past X-Men readers very excited,” Marts told CBR.

Back to Bendis, his Guardians of the Galaxy is under Marts. As CBR pointed out, Marts was Editor as the mutants first hit the big screen and now he’s on Guardians just as enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Back when the first X-Men movies were getting off the ground, I was working on the X-Books, I was working on all the movie adaptations. That was uncharted territory. It was really a new thing for the company at the time and we were figuring out things as we went. I feel we did it pretty successfully, but the difference this time around is that with the majority of the Marvel movies being handled by the company itself, there’s so much more cohesion, so much more synchronicity between what the studio is doing and what the comics are doing. To come in and be able to work on “Guardians of the Galaxy” before a major movie’s going to be coming out is an amazing opportunity.”

Two big question can’t help pop in my head with the return of Marts:

After New X-Men, Marts recruited Grant Morrison to DC Comics for a phenomenal Batman run, could Morrison return to the House of Ideas?

After writing and directing Avengers: Age of Ultron, would Joss Whedon be talked into writing a comic book again for Marvel?
