Michael Douglas reveals some of the motivation for joining the cast of Ant-Man. The Oscar-winning actor will play Hank Pym, creator of the Pym particles that allow someone to shrink to insect size.
“I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long,” Douglas told Reuters. “The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (the actor’s 13-year-old son) will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see.”
The casting announcement came after Douglas won a Golden Globe for portraying Liberace.
“Sometimes – like (when) they didn’t see you for Liberace – you’ve got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun,” Douglas added of the decision to do a superhero movie.
Douglas is following in the path of a fellow Hollywood legend. Robert Redford is playing Alexander Pierce, a top level S.H.I.E.L.D. officer in Captain America: The Winter Soldier – coming out this April.
Douglas joins Paul Rudd as Scott Lang in Ant-Man for director Edgar Wright. The film is set for July, 2015.
