A new Seattle Superhero is born this week!
From our friends at Make-A-Wish:
“Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes – from caped crusaders protecting cities to children like seven-year-old Nick, who is fearlessly battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Now undergoing his second round of chemotherapy, Nick has tapped into his superhero strength and spirit to endure a dosage that is typically given to much older children.
“He never complains, EVER,” said his mom, Stephanie. “Nick rarely gets sick, but after he does, he is smiling and running off to play. He is literally the strongest person I have ever met.” With heroic strength like this, it’s no surprise he wished to be transformed into a superhero alter-ego of his own creation: Red Lightning!
A wish for Nick and his whole family Nick’s big day has given him something to look forward to. But more importantly, it will be an experience for him and his brother, Cooper, to share. His best friend and big brother will be by his side every step of the way, just as he has during treatment, when he assumes his sidekick alter ego — The Dragon.
“My favorite part of all of this has been seeing Nick and his brother get so excited about everything,” said Stephanie. “Cooper is such an amazing big brother to Nick. It’s so amazing that Cooper gets to be a part of Nick’s day since this has affected him too.”
More than a moment, it’s a long-lasting experience Supermom Stephanie senses that the wish experience will impact Nick long after the wish itself. “Nick will remember this day for a long time. He has been through so much that no child should ever have to go though. He deserves to have all the positive attention he can get.”
Nick’s wish aka Red Lightning’s adventure will hit multiple Seattle iconic locations. You can join the finale at the EMP Museum’s Sky Church on Friday, November 14, at 3 p.m. for a special, surprise celebration.
Help make Red Lightning feel special by bringing your own Red Lightning signs or inviting friends to this community celebration. For more information about this event, visit the Facebook page.
All wish kids are our heroes, let’s help make Nick see his true superhero powers.
“Wishes are an important part of patient care and the treatment protocol. They give these children something to look forward to during very difficult days and they provide their families with a sense of normalcy that is no one present. Wishes provide strength. And, their impact is long lasting. Nick’s mom, Stephanie, agrees. “Nick will remember this day for a long time. He has been through so much that no child should ever have to go though. He deserves to have all the positive attention he can get.”
You can be a hero, too!
All wish kids are our heroes. In fact, right now there are about 400 children waiting for their turn to experience the transformational power of a wish. Show your superhero powers and make a donation today of cash, frequent flier miles or become a volunteer so more kids like Nick can realize their dreams.”
