Writer Nick Spencer (Steve Rogers: Captain America, Sam Wilson: Captain America) and Steve McNiven (Civil War) will chronicle Marvel’s massive nine-issue event with covers by Mark Brooks.

X-Men, Avengers, Champions, Defenders and all the heroes must rally against…Captain America?

The new series is the big payoff after last year’s shocking revelation: Steve Rogers is Hydra!

Fans saw an ominous vision of Marvel’s future in Civil War II: The Oath with Hydra in control after Rogers becomes head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Secret Empire follows Civil War II that resulted in a comatose Tony Stark, the deaths of beloved Avengers and the “winning” side (Captain Marvel) dealing with the price of victory.

The whole time Captain America was hiding a secret from the heroes that will have huge ramifications this year. Last year, when Rogers was restored to full power by a Cosmic Cube, it changed his past: Rogers has a Hydra mole all this time.

The new series by Nick Spencer “will be the culmination and unresolved turn of events of that shocking story” said Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort.

Cap will be unmasked as a Hydra agent.

Issue Zero arrives in April. Brevoort calls it “the worst day of the Marvel Universe.”

“Where not one, not two, but three separate events break out all at once. Cap, as head of S.H.I.E.L.D., is able to mobilize forces to all three of those situations. And those three situations represent Hydra’s first move. It comes off the blocks explosively right from the get-go,” he told ABC News.

Issue One hits in May.

Artists Andrea Sorrentino, Leinil Yu will join McNiven, Spencer and Brooks on the nine-issue event.
