The Illuminati have always been a covert team of Marvel’s greatest heroes who often make less than heroic decisions. I’m talking about you Tony Stark and Namor!
But in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now, the Illuminati becomes unquestionably evil.
In Illuminati #1 Joshua Williamson and Shawn Crystal brings back the Hood to organize a new super group of villains working together.
You may remember Hood (aka Parker Robbins) got his powers from a demonic hood and became a crime boss during the Brian Michael Bendis New Avengers run. Robbins also joined The Cabal, a secret team of super villains. For a rookie rogue, it was pretty impressive to see Robbins at the table of power with Doctor Doom, Loki and Norman Osborn.
The Hood is back. Robbins has recruited a new cabal of bad guys.
“The Hood had an awakening,” Williamson told Marvel.com. “He realized that there had to be a better way to how they were doing things. He looked around the world and saw that bad guys were winning every day. They are. It sucks, but it’s true. And he wanted to get in on that action. But he knew that they needed to be smarter. The last time he tried this, he got greedy and tried to be the boss. He’s not really the boss here. He’s just trying to help out his fellow villains.”
The crime boss has stolen something else: the name once used by Stark, Namor, Reed Richard, Black Panther and Doctor Strange during the Bendis and Jonathan Hickman New Avengers run.
“‘The Illuminati’ fits because of their goals to make their lives better,” Williamson reveals. “They all believe they are too smart for the world they live in and want to fix that. Part of their goals is to keep the new organization a secret, to hide what they are planning and doing from the heroes. That always seems to be the thing that catches the villains up: they get caught. They plan to not get caught.
“And the Hood just liked the sound of it.”
Who does Hood assemble for his under the radar super group?
Black Ant, Mad Thinker, Enchantress, Thunderball of The Wrecking Crew and Titania.
Illuminati #1 arrives this October.
