Teachers and students of the Jean Grey School are learning hard lessons from writer Jason Latour in Wolverine and the X-Men.

Logan is down. Quentin Quire is edging toward a dark destiny as the Phoenix. The kids are torn over Evan’s destiny to become Apocalypse. Plus, the kids are facing Fantomex’s agenda and the twisted Phoenix Corporation.

Mahmud Asrar was just crowned one of the All-New Young Guns, Marvel’s squad to artists to watch.

Marvel shared a look at Asrar’s work from Wolverine and the X-Men #5 as the first arc comes to a dramatic close.

Asrar is in a unique opportunity to collaborate with a writer who’s an established artist in his own right.

“Constant pressure to do better. That’s how I can sum up my run on WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN due to intimidation caused by how good an artist Jason is. I think it’s an advantage to have an artist as a writer as he can pretty much visualize what’s on his mind and see it if works on a page. So although it’s not an easy task drawing this book, I don’t encounter impossible problems with the scripts. We also have a decent rapport which helps with things going forward in what we want to attain,” Asrar told Marvel.com.
