Here’s a rapid fire rundown of the big announcements from Marvel’s X-Men panel at San Diego Comic Con:
RETURN OF NIGHTCRAWLER! Yes, I’m excited about this!
Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness launch Amazing X-Men this November. Wolverine, Storm, Iceman, Beast, Northstar and Firestar go in search of the real Kurt Wagner.
“We’ve planning this and keeping it a secret for a long time. You’re finally going to get the story of the Bamfs.” said X-Men Editor Nick Lowe.
“We want Nightcrawler back, but it better be a damn good resurrection story. We take stuff like that very seriously.” responded Bendis to a fan question.
X-MEN: BATTLE OF THE ATOM! The 50th Anniversary event starting in September.
“The X-Men from the future come to the present and tell the X-Men to get the hell out of here right now,” said Brian Michael Bendis, “What’s awaiting the X-Men in the future is a big part of the story.”
WOLVERINE: KILLABLE! The next arc of Logan’s solo series by Paul Cornell and Alan Davis.
“We just got rid of his healing factor. Wolverine and Kitty Pryde are about to go into the valley of death together. He’s getting used to the idea that’s he’s vulnerable and will grow old, then tons of Wolverine villains come after him for six issues of Alan Davis-drawn mayhem and a huge change in #13.” said Cornell.
“Paul had the idea of getting rid of Wolverine’s healing factor and telling a story that explores what that means. He has some amazing moments coming up. It’s a Wolverine you’ve never seen before,” said Editor Jeanine Schaefer, “Wolverine’s whole fighting style is to throw himself in front of bullets. What happens when that’s gone?”
UNCANNY X-FORCE:
“We’ve had a stellar line-up of artists, I’ve been really lucky. Uncanny X-Force #12 will be the first issue fully drawn by Adrian Alphona in nearly five years. It’s a solo story starring Spiral.” said writer Sam Humphries.
Ramon Perez (Wolverine and the X-Men Savage Land arc) is drawing issues #10-11 and more on Uncanny X-Force.
THE END OF X-FACTOR:
“I love the cover for the last issue. Nothing to do with the story inside, but terrific cover,” said writer Peter David.
“The thing I hear most from fans is that they’re really impressed I can take ‘B and C level characters’ and make people care about them. And that is what X-Factor has always been about,” he added.
“Jamie Madrox thinks he’s a detective. He’s really not, but he keeps acting like it because he knows it’s a cool gig and everybody goes along with it.”
“X-Factor is such a special book. It’s one of the steadiest books in all of comics. It’s a testament to Peter and the artists he has worked with and the fans.” said Editor Nick Lowe.
Peter David does have a new project coming from Marvel. No official word on it yet.
X-MEN!
“Brian Wood wrote a run on X-Men last year that was all ladies and Colossus. It wasn’t on purpose, but it worked. We talked about making a new book with all women because there are so many great female X-Men and they work so well together. It made sense to all of us. We didn’t want to call it X-Women, we wanted to call it X-Men, because they always have been and that’s what they are. So we done did it.” said Editor Jeanine Schaefer.
Terry Dodson will join Brian Wood for an upcoming arc bringing back Lady Deathstrike (check out her new Day of the Day look here ) and the Sisterhood.
DEADPOOL!
“You will see Cable in Deadpool in the not too distant future,” said co-writer Gerry Duggan.
“They might have trenchcoats and Tommy guns and be from a different time.” added Brian Posehn.
FINAL TEASER:
“We have something coming up down the line called The Utopians…that’s all I’ll say about that.” said Battle of the Atom, Uncanny X-Men, All-New X-Men writer Bendis.
