Who will be the new Captain America?
Marvel revealed this July 4th teaser via Tumblr sure to ignite fireworks among fans.
In the pages of Captain America by Rick Remender, the Super Soldier Serum was taken out of Steve Rogers by the Iron Nail. Rogers is now a frail old man with old enemies Red Skull and Arnim Zola returning in this week’s Captain America #22.
5 other men have worn the uniform including Isiah Bradley and most recently, John “Bucky” Barnes after Rogers was assassinated in the aftermath of Civil War. (Rogers was actually a prisoner of Red Skull.)
A powerless Steve Rogers appears to be a long-lasting storyline affecting the Marvel Universe. Captain America was MIA from the promotion for AXIS, the big event by Remender in which X-Men and Avengers team up against the Red Skull and the final issues of Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run.
Avengers #35 shows what looks like Falcon carrying a shield. Does this mean longtime ally Sam Wilson will be the new Cap as Time Runs Out clicks to a conclusion.
Marvel will reveal more Monday.
