Johnny Storm in the Inhumans?

Ultimate Spider-Man in the Avengers?

On Free Comic Book Day we’ll see a look at Marvel after Secret Wars with the All-New, All-Different Avengers and Uncanny Inhumans.

The days of mutants only in X-books or other Marvel mainstays sticking with the same team are over. Sometimes mixing it up is just what a character, team or book needs.

Here are our favorite Marvel team mix and matches that shocked at first but worked.

Namor in the X-Men? The King of Atlantis had been an Avenger, Defender, enemy and frenemy of the Fantastic Four. Namor’s hybrid heritage made him a mutant. Two races of outsiders needing homes brought mutants and Atlanteans together. The Sub-Mariner formed an alliance with the X-men when they raised an island haven off the coast of San Francisco to form their own Nation X away from Norman Osborn’s reach. Namor respected Cyclops and shared a passionate past with Emma Frost. The mutants lived above on Utopia, while Atlanteans formed a home base on the base underneath the ocean.

Sunspot and Cannonball in the Avengers? After years of living in the shadow of the senior X-Men, these best friends and original New Mutants were recruited by Steve Rogers and Tony Stark to join an Avengers World. Eight months into the future, Roberto took over AIM and Sam fell in love with Izzy (fellow new Avengers recruit Smasher)and had a child with her.

Black Panther and Storm in the Fantastic Four? T’Challa and Ororo were married and became Marvel’s new power couple. The royal couple of Wakanda sided with Captain America in the Superhero Civil War and filled in for Reed and Susan in the FF when they left to work on their marraige after the events of Civil War.

Wolverine and Spider-Man in the Avengers? Brian Michael Bendis literally blew up Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers Disassembled but it was part of his master plan to assemble a new team with classic members and adding new fan-favorites like Spidey and Logan to really make the roster live up the the name the Mightiest Heroes.

The Battleworld of Secret Wars is divided into Warzones but after let’s hope the post-Wars Marvel Universe continues to be a boundary breaking new world where mutants and Inhumans can be Avengers, Inhumans can find kindred spirits in X-Men and we have the great team that carry on the legacy of diversity and the unexpected.
