Marvel is raising Hell-cat!
Patsy Walker, the former Avenger and Defender known as Hellcat is poised to strike in a major comeback.
Rachael Taylor will play Patsy Walker on the upcoming Marvel Netflix series AKA Jessica Jones with Krysten Ritter as the title character, a former superhero turned private detective.
Marvel announced the hero will star in Patsy Walker: AKA Hellcat via Yahoo. The new comic book is packed with female power courtesy writer Kate Leth (Adventure Time, Fraggle Rock) and artist Brittney Williams.
Patsy Walker started out as the star of Marvel’s teen romance comics when Marvel called Timely Comics. The teen supermodel of romance books was rebooted into a costumed crimefighter who briefly joined The Avengers then The Defenders and developed supernatural powers after a hellish (pardon the pun) marriage Damion Hellstrom aka Son of Satan.
Patsy is getting rebooted again. Here’s what Leth told Yahoo you need to know about the new Hellcat:
“She’s a superhero martial-arts wiz that can sense mystical energy! She learned how to fight on the moon, so you know she’s good.”
“Out of the costume, she’s a twenty-something girl looking for work and purpose in New York City.”
“Her mom wrote weird romance comics — Patsy Walker! You can totally read them! — about her teen years and her childhood frenemy has reprinted them, as if being a superhero wasn’t enough to contend with!” [This is Leth’s nod to Walker’s comic-book beginnings in the ‘40s.]
Patsy was most recently working for Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk as the firm’s private investigator. We’ve been pleading for Marvel to Raise Hellcat into her own series for years. Patsy’s last solo book was by Kathryn Immonen when Hellcat was assigned to be the official superhero of Alaska during the Fifty State Initiative.
Patsy Walker aka Hellcat strike in December.
