Marvel shared new details about the upcoming initiative and six cover GIFS that will make you feel nostalgic and excited for what’s next as past meets present.

The new covers with classic homages to major Marvel events comes with a massive new promotional image by Mark Brooks. Today’s news follows the earlier reveal of a MARVEL LEGACY one-shot by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic.

“A new initiative that will take things back to our iconic history, with a firm eye on the future, MARVEL LEGACY will present stories that remind everyone—newcomers and longtime fans alike—why Marvel stands as the premier name in fiction,” said Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. “Our titles will unearth gems from Marvel’s rich history, remind readers of connections between characters, and usher in the return of some major characters who’ve been missed.  Above all else, we want to inject our comics with a massive dose of fun!”

Let’s talk about those covers!

Uncanny Avengers Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

UNCANNY AVENGERS pays homage to AVENGERS #187 by John Byrne. In this classic tale, Wanda and Pietro headed to Wundagore Mountain in search of their past and true identity. Scarlet Witch became possessed by Chthon and under the influence of Mordred. (This issue is really special to me. This story occurred in Avengers – one of first two comic book subscriptions (Incredible Hulk was the other) I ever had as a little kid in a town without comic book shops!)

Gwenpool Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

UNBELIEVABLE GWENPOOL pays homage to the milestone FANTASTIC FOUR #200 and the iconic image of Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom locked in Battle.

Thanos Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

THANOS reaches in victory just like Doctor Doom in SECRET WARS #12, the finale of the epic first major Marvel crossover in which the Beyonder pitted the greatest heroes and villains against each other on Battleworld.

Iron Fist Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

IRON FIST is a rematch decades in the making. Sabretooth did not make his debut in X-Men but actually in IRON FIST #14. Looks like Danny Rand and Victor Creed will have a new showdown this Fall.

Ben Reilly Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

BEN REILLY, THE SCARLET SPIDER pays homage to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #51, Peter Parker’s showdown with Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin.

Spider-Man/Deadpool Marvel Legacy courtesy Marvel

SPIDER-MAN DEADPOOL plays on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #34, Peter Parker stalked by Kraven the Hunter.

MARVEL LEGACY #1, an over-sized 50-page, one-shot special arrives in September. Marvel Comics titles step towards a bright new future – one that harkens back to what has made Marvel a household name while looking towards tomorrow. With fun and thrilling reveals primed to excite fans, both existing and new, this fall, prepare for MARVEL LEGACY!
