MARVEL LEGACY #1 is here! The one-shot by writer Jason Aaron and an all-star roster of artists served to reboot the line and universe after the SECRET EMPIRE finale.
The epic revealed a secret past, hidden threat, set the stage for the future of the Marvel Universe, posed “What If” scenarios, featured the return of classic characters and teased more missing heroes coming back.
Here are the biggest moments and burning questions – what it could mean and how to see what happens next!

Original Avengers
What if there have always been Avengers? Avengers Assembled one million years ago?
Odin, Phoenix, Black Panther, Iron Fist, Agamotto, Starbrand, Ghost Rider!
The prehistoric Avengers battle a Celestial tearing the Earth apart in search of something. What is the cosmic giant digging up? The Celestial appeared to be infected but with what?
In Marvel canon the Celestials came to Earth to create two races: Eternals. Thanos and Eros aka Starfox are descendants of this race. Deviants, ancient residents of the lost city of Lemuria.
Remember what fans learned about Marvel’s secret past via the lost stories of The Illumunati?
This secret super group is even more powerful. If they possible killed a Celestial, what else did they do? What legacy did they leave? Remember in GENERATIONS: THE THUNDER, Jason Aaron revealed Odin and The Phoenix were once lovers.
Ghost Rider vs Starbrand
Robbie Reyes is confronted by Starbrand who says he knows the Ghost Rider would be the first to come. Starbrand vows to kill anyone who tries to dig up what they buried. Did the ancient Avengers bury the Celestial or what the giant alien was after?
The battle ends with a mad Starbrand warning of “so many dead” “you are all doomed” “the sleeper will wake. The Horde will feed. The Host. The Final Host will…” before Ghost Rider blasts him into oblibvion. Ghost Rider will co-star in a new SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE book.
Loki, Earth’s Savior?
Loki leads Frost Giants on a raid of a SHIELD installation after a crate with a mysterious blue glow. More on Loki’s actions later on but the trickster will become the new Sorcerer Supreme and replace Stephen Strange in his title book.
Cap – MIA?
Captain America is missing in action but Steve Rogers is seen in a diner. Cap’s book will resume original numbering as Steve goes on a road trip across the country to fight for redemption and restore his name.
Mangog!
The Odinson wallows in his unworthiness drinking while an Asgardian with visions takes a final step in the Aether after uttering three chilling words, “Mangog is coming.” This evil force is made of the souls of those killed by Odin. The Mighty Thor returns to original numbering. Issue 700 begins with “The Death of the Mighty Thor” with Jane Foster, Odinson and Mangog.
Iron Man
Tony Stark awakens from his coma and is missing. Did Tony vanish on his own or was he taken? The Iron Man books kick off the Search for Stark. Will his possible comeback affect the status of Riri and Victor Von Doom?
Deadpool
Deadpool is wanted for the murder of Agent Phil Coulson? Is the fan-favorite spy born on the big screen really dead?
Black Magic Spider Villain?
Doctor Strange and Iron Fist are alerted to an attempted raid on the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum. The would be raider is Norman Osborn. Why is the former Green Goblin seeking supernatural weapons?
Mystery Avenger?
Jarvis and the new Wasp look out at the Avengers mansion garden upon a statue of the founding team members including a mystery woman. Speculation is she’s an earlier teased character called Voyager. Who is she? Has the timestream been corrupted and history rewritten? Who did it? Why? Is it connected to the greater threat posed by the Celestial?
Fantastic?
On the Baxter Building roof, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm stand united reminiscing about their past and future when Grimm makes the fiery symbol of the Fantastic Four logo. The Thing and Human Torch will co-star in a brand new MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE book.
Black Panther’s Space Kingdom
Planet Bast – Throneworld of “The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda?!” Is this the future, a parallel universe and what does it mean for T’Challa?
Planet Hulk
Hulk come home? A deep space monitoring station on Earth picks up a call from Sakaar claiming “we need you Green Scar. Hulk! It’s time to come home!” Amadeus Cho will return of Sakaar, the world fans once visited in the classic “Planet Hulk” story – soon to be seen on the big screen in THOR: RAGNAROK.
The Host?
An archaeological team digging unearths the giant hand of a Celestial who blasts the team and utters “Summon The Final Host. Cleanse Them All.”
Loki is later seen ascending into the cave vowing to “save the world” but at the same time the Celestial is waking up.
Is this Celestial connected to Knowhere, the space outpost inside the giant head of a dead Celestial as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Who is the Host? Is there an alien entity even more powerful than this Celestial? Has this Celestial been buried in the planet all this time and what impact did it have on the heroes, villains and people living on it?
SNIKT!
A Frost Giant gets away from the Avengers in the SHIELD facility with the crate until a beer truck knocks it off the road. Out of the driver’s seat comes….Wolverine! It’s the original, real deal Logan with a classic cowboy hat, jeans and white tank t-shirt….drinking beer after SNIKT’ing the Frost Giant. Logan opens the crate to find…an Infinity gem. This is a blue one – the Mind gem which enables psychic powers including telepathy.
Who knows Logan is alive? Young Jean Grey finds his adamantium tomb cracked open and she smiles.
This is a very powerful yet understated way to bring Logan back. How is Logan alive again? Did he break out or was he broken out? Who else knows he’s alive? Does he know who he is?
There’s no immediate plan in the upcoming books to have him reunite wit the X-Men. How will Logan’s return affect Laura’s role as Wolverine and Old Man Logan? It looks like Logan and Loki could be on opposite sides of a Gem quest? How long until Logan makes his presence known to the X-Men, Avengers and the world?
Fantastic Two+
Valeria and Franklin Richards are exploring the new Marvel Multiverse created in the Secret Wars finale. Valeria reaches out to a mysterious giant hand with a light but instead jets off to another new universe to explore. Is this Galactus, Doom, Reed Richards? Will Reed and Sue be seen again soon? MARVEL-TWO-IN-ONE teases a secret Doom has been keeping since the end of SECRET WARS.
As Marvel Legacy looks to the past and future, will Marvel’s First Family return?
