You could call these heroes part of Marvel’s “street-level” cast of characters. Which other Marvel heroes could join these gritty vigilantes in the Marvel Universe with their own Netflix series?
Here are four candidates for your consideration:
Spider-Woman
Jessica Drew could absolutely rock the big screen but we’d like to see her get the spotlight in her own series. Jessica has a complicated, tortured past with connections to Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. As a child, a sick Jessica was cured with irradiated spider’s blood by her scientist father. She was raised among other living experiments (imagine animals turned into almost humans) on Wundagore Mountain in Eastern Europe. After leaving to see the outside world, Jessica was captured, brainwashed and turned into a Hydra operative not knowing the true nature of the evil organization. On a mission to kill Nick Fury, Jessica learns the truth, breaks conditioning and Fury recruits Jessica to be his double agent inside Hydra. Later, Jessica would become a solo adventurer and New Avenger. Jessica is a master spy with incredible fighting skills along with her powers similar to Spider-Man plus ability to fire bio-electric blasts.
Shang-Chi
Danny Rand may possess the Iron Fist but Shang-Chi is the Master of Kung Fu in Marvel Comics. The son of criminal mastermind Fu Manchu, Shang-Chi was raised and trained to be his father’s ultimate weapon. While on an assignment to kill his father’s rival, Shang-Chi has a change of heart leading to a career as a good guy as an agent of MI-6, a Hero-For-Hire and an Avenger. Shang-Chi doesn’t officially have super powers, just a lifetime dedicated to martial arts, meditation and athletics. Shang-Chi may appear in Iron Fist but with his connections in the Marvel Universe, he could be the Master of his own series.
Moon Knight
Is he a mercenary turned emissary of an ancient Egyptian God of Vengeance or he is just insane? Marc Spector is one of Marvel’s most complicated, tortured heroes. Spector is the son of a Rabbi who went on to become a boxer, marine then mercenary. After a brutal fight with a rival merc, Spector was left to died in the Egyptian desert but was rescued and brought to the temple of Khonshu, where a vision from the ancient God of Vengeance and the Moon led Spector become a masked crimefighter. As Khonshu’s avatar on Earth, Spector went back to America, invests his mercenary money to set up identities: millionaire Steven Grant, cab driver Jake Lockley to get the word on the street about the criminal underworld and Moon Knight, dressed in a white shroud. In a new comic book series, Spector recently woke up in an insane asylum questioning his entire past. From fighting werewolves to rival mercenaries and criminal madmen and masterminds, Moon Knight is one of the most dangerous anti-heroes in Marvel’s dark underworld.
Blade
The hero that helped launch the Marvel movie dynasty should return in his own series. Wesley Snipes played the vampire hunter in three films (back when Marvel partnered with other studios) then the hero starred in a short-lived television series. Eric Brooks is the Daywalker. Vampire Deacon Frost fed on Brooks’ mother was she was dying in labor. Brooks was born with vampire-like abilities. Brooks grew up trained by vampire hunters to protect the innocent from the undead stalkers. Along with vampire strength, speed and stamina, Blade is a master of martial arts and experts swordsman. Blade became a member of the Nightstalkers, a group of vampire hunters allied with Doctor Strange, an agent of MI-13 (think British Secret Service against supernatural enemies) with alliances with the X-Men and Avengers. After establishing the mystical themes of Iron Fist and Stephen Strange, it’s not hard to imagine detouring into an underworld of the undead…and Blade will be there armed with ready to slay.
Which Marvel heroes do you want to see join the Netflix series universe of Marvel heroes?
Update: You can get Marvel’s Daredevil now on on Blu-Ray.
