Henry Cavill is soaring as Superman in Man of Steel and will fly again in sequels and a possible Justice League movie.
Imagine Cavill as James Bond or Edward Cullen?
Cavill’s road to Superman includes a list of roles in other huge film franchises that he lost. The star reveals to ABC News he lost out on playing James Bond in Casino Royale to Daniel Craig. He lost Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire and Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga to Robert Pattinson. Craig has starred in 3 James Bond films and is contracted for 2 more.
“Daniel Craig was absolutely nailed that role and best man for the job. I don’t care if I don’t get the job if the best guy for the job gets it,” said Cavill.
When asked if he’s practiced ordering 007’s classic cocktail Cavill replied:
“No, but I practiced asking, ‘shaken, not stirred,’ though.”
If Man of Steel sequels fly then it’s unlikely Cavill would be considered to headline another franchise like James Bond after playing Superman but you never know. Pierce Brosnan had to wait patiently to play 007 after a Remington Steele television contract kept him from succeeding Roger Moore. After two Timothy Dalton starring movies, Brosnan suited up for Goldeneye and then four 007 movies.
Cavill goes on to say he almost missed the “you got the job” phone call but for a great reason many geeks would approve of – he was playing World of Warcraft!
“I looked down at the last minute and I see its Zach Snyder and I dive for phone,” Cavill said, “I was like, ‘forget you guys, I’m going for Zach!”
