MAN OF STEEL Sequel Dreams

Man of Steel will have a sequel. Zach Snyder and David Goyer pulled off the challenge of reinventing Superman. With the guidance of Christopher Nolan and influence of The Dark Knight TrilogyMan of Steel was a more realistic, darker take on the iconic good guy.

Now let’s have a little more fun in Man of Steel 2! Here are 2 essential elements for the Super sequel:

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel #1 courtesy DC Comics

Lex Luthor! There were LexCorp signs everywhere in Metropolis as Kal-El fought Zod so we know the ruthless corporate mogul version of Luthor exists in this new version – not the mad scientist roaming the planet with bumbling henchmen. How a Luthor financially crippled by the battle of Metropolis, trying to profit from the rebuilding and leading a global campaign against the “alien outsider” while scheming to steal alien secrets for his own power mad agenda. Clark and Lois can investigate LexCorp wrongdoing leading to some great scenes in which Luthor demonstrates his massive ego trying to impress Lois. While I did love Valerie Perrine as Eve in Superman: The Motion Picture – what if Clark’s hometown sweetheart Lana Lang was working and falling in love with Luthor?

I would definitely use Lex Luthor: Man of Steel by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo as inspiration! In this classic look into the mind of the greatest Superman villain, it’s Kal-El that’s the bad guy!

Brainiac!  In the sequel we meet the alien artificial intelligence on his “collection of worlds” obsession by trying to lure Kal-El off Earth (in a scheme with Luthor) with the lost Kryptonian city of Kandor as bait. While Superman matches wits with Luthor he can fight the robotic alien in battle. While every fan has the “fear of too many villains in sequels” I think an unholy alliance of  Luthor’s brains and Brainiac’s brains and metallic brawn would be the evil equation for the sequel.

Just one more thing…an “Easter egg” for the second film that could lead to bigger things in the 3-quel: Intergang – the ruthless crime organization using weapons supplied by Darkseid – the perfect villain to unite DC’s heroes in a Justice League movie!
