Magneto has been a relentless fighter for mutant rights. The final incursion threatens all life on the last two Earths in the Multiverse. How will the mutant savior deal with this impossible odds when the Last Days hit Magneto #18 this week?
“Magneto most certainly will not sit idly by while the world ends,” writer Cullen Bunn told Marvel.com. “As is in his nature, he believes he can save the world even when everyone else in the world has failed. But Magneto’s nature also dictates that he’ll resort to some of the most ruthless acts imaginable to accomplish his goals.”
When the world ends how will the mutant leader want history to think of him? “The legacy he might leave behind weighs heavily on Magneto,” he says. “Now, at the end of the world, the weight of his past decisions and actions is becoming even more terrible. I think I’d like him to be remembered as a man who did bad things for the right reasons, who took steps no one else was capable or willing to take for the betterment of his people—and maybe even for all of humanity.
“He’s a villain, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t try to be the hero at least every now and then.”
In the original Secret Wars, Magneto fought with the heroes in the contest devised by the Beyonder. We do know the House of M will rise again as one of the Warzones of Battleworld, the new realm that emerges in Secret Wars #2 this week. This was the reality in which Magneto and his children ruled over a mutant controlled world. Dennis Hopeless and Kris Anka are the team on the new House of M.
