Fans have petitioned for Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to star in his own solo movie. This new series may be a sign that their wishes will be granted. Marvel Comics announced Loki: Agent of Asgard at New York Comic Con. Imagine the God of Lies as the James Bond of the Nine Realms!
Kid Loki has been leading the Young Avengers (the story behind Loki’s transformation will be found there) but in the new series he’s all grown up and working for the All-Mother.
Writer Al Ewing (Mighty Avengers) tells Marvel.com how Loki got his new role as mythical superspy:
“There are things he wants from the All-Mother, and things the All-Mother wants from him, and they have a mutual arrangement. Essentially, as Kid Loki hinted, Loki’s fresh start is by no means a done deal; it’d be very easy for him to slip back into his old self, the super villain trapped in endlessly recurring defeats, which would be worse than death for him. The All-Mother has a way to help Loki avoid that terrible fate, but there’s some quid pro quo involved.”
Ewing says his take on Loki is influenced by his cinematic counterpart.
“I did have Tom Hiddleston [Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe] partly in mind when writing him, but that’s been pretty much overtaken by Lee’s take on the Loki look. Also, in the first issue, he will fight Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow and the Hulk, because we are shameless, shameless, shameless.”
Lee Garbett will be the artist but check out Frank Cho’s cover to Loki, Agent of Asgard #1 coming in 2014.
