Will the real LOBO stand up, aim and fire?

Cullen Bunn (Deadpool, Magneto, Sinestro) is adding another villain/anti-hero to his impressive resume.

DC Comics is launching a new Lobo ongoing series by Bunn and artist Reilly Brown according to Comic Book Resources.

Lobo (a Keith Giffen creation) was an intergalactic bounty hunter created in 1983 but became hugely popular in the 1990’s as The Last Czarnian (by Alan Grant and Simon Bisley) then fell into guest star/back burner status.

When DC launched The New 52 – Lobo was reintroduced briefly in the Deathstroke series then again in Villains Month with a leaner design by Kenneth Rocafort. You could say DC turned the rough motorcycle monster man into a more of a “pretty boy” alien male model type. DC is saying the first reintroduced Lobo is an imposter and the second one is the real deal.

“The “real” Lobo is the star of our series, and I think he gives us a lot more mileage for new stories and avoiding some of the dangers of the “one trick pony” you mentioned earlier. There’s so much we don’t know about this character, because we’ve only seen him very, very briefly,” Bunn tells CBR.

“The other character, “Faux-bo” as we’ve been calling him, will play a role in the book, but it might be a little surprising to readers. Lobo has been hunting Faux-bo for a while now. That hunt will reach its conclusion pretty quickly. We’ll be looking into why someone might steal Lobo’s identity as the series progresses.

One of my earliest pitches for the series featured both Lobos in an odd couple/buddy cop misadventure across the universe. It was sort of a “Simon & Simon” story featuring the Lobo brothers. In the end, that didn’t fly. And as much fun as I think that might have been, it’s probably for the best.”

The new Lobo #1 hits October 1.
