Time Ran Out.
Everything Is Ending.
The highly anticipated Secret Wars begins this week following Jonathan Hickman’s final issues of Avengers and New Avengers.
“The Marvel Universe. The Ultimate Universe. They’re gonna smash together,” said Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso in an earlier announcement event, “It’s all the universes you can imagine. This is the Marvel Universe moving forward.”
At the start of Hickman’s Avengers run, a mysterious event in the multiverse caused incursions between rival universes in which both or only one is destroyed. Black Panther assembled a new Illuminati to stop the incursions and save our Earth. A bitter rivalry broke out between two old allies and it all came down to a powerhouse battle between Captain America and Iron Man. Two men with two different thoughts on saving a planet fought it out as two worlds collided.
As the main event arrives, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort proclaims “the Marvel Universe and Ultimate Universe will collide and the heroes of those worlds will have 8 hours to figure out what to do about it before both universes are destroyed. And they won’t (laughs) – I’ve ruined Secret Wars for you. But that’s just the first issue.
Battleworld is what’s left after the destruction of the two universe and Brevoort says it’s “little melting pot in which the new Marvel Universe will be created.”
“Every piece of this world is a building block for the Marvel Universe moving forward. None of these stories are Elseworlds or What Ifs? or Alternate reality stories,” Alonso said, “they are set in THE reality of the Marvel Universe and have legs.”
Secret Wars #1 arrives Wednesday.
