Lady Deathstrike is back with a vengeance in X-Men #7 this week. Brian Wood kicks off a brand new arc for the all-female X-Men squad in the aftermath of Battle of the Atom.

Kitty Pryde has left the team. Monet St. Croix of X-Factor is on board as the 3-part Muertas arc begins. A revamped Lady Deathstrike has a “Day of the Dead” inspired killer new look in these pages by fan favorite artist Terry Dodson.

The villainess isn’t alone – she’s recruited a new Sisterhood but they’re not all mutants. Wood tells Marvel.com how he chose the furious females for this new incarnation.

“Well, a few of the Sisterhood are yet to be revealed, and so I’ll keep quiet on them for now. But so far, yeah, we were looking for villains who weren’t the norm, who had ties to other parts of the Marvel Universe. I spent a lot of time just running down lists of villains on Wikipedia, asking the editors who might be available, and narrowing it down. I was looking not just at names and personalities, but power sets. Someone like Enchantress presents a threat that the X-Men maybe don’t see every day. Typhoid Mary—who doesn’t want to see her face off against Psylocke? Amora vs. Monet? It’s pretty easy to imagine the villains winning those fights, just as easily as the X-Men prevailing.”

The war between the Sisterhood and X-women begins in X-Men #7. After Muertas, artist Kris Anka joins Wood for the next 3-part arc, Ghosts.

You may remember – Lady Deathstrike’s father invented the adamantium bonding process used on Wolverine. Back in the Chris Claremont/Marc Silvestri era, Lady Deathstrike lead a band of cyborgs called The Reavers.
