Is Jerome Valeska the Joker?

It’s the biggest burning question ever since Cameron Monaghan appeared on Gotham and has been laughing it up while on a killing spree.

After last week’s attack on the Gotham City Police Department, Valeska became Gotham’s Most Wanted.

In The Last Laugh, producers delivered a vicious punchline.

SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read this week’s Gotham episode stop reading now.

Seriously.

Here it comes.

No Joke!

Valeska and the rest of the Maniax (including Barbara Kean) are instruments of this season’s big bads: the Galavans. This twisted brother and sister are back in Gotham for vengeance on behalf of their family. Tonight Theo (James Frain) revealed his family’s history with the city giving more proof The Court of Owls are coming to the series.

Jerome and Barbara’s reign of terror erupted again at a gala where Bruce, Alfred and Leigh were are victims of the psychotic duo. But Jerome’s rise to infamy was literally cut short by Theo who “entered the hero” before Gotham’s citizens at the event on live on television. With a stab to the neck, Jerome died with a bloody grin on his face and a theory cut to pieces.

Theo is now Gotham’s hero. It’s all part his master plan.

This is not the end of The Joker on Gotham. Producers have set up several Easter Eggs and plot points to revisit including The Red Hood Gang and the not-so-funny comedian who appeared in Fish Mooney’s club in the first episode. As the final scenes imply, Jerome Valeska has inspired an army of would-be “Jokers” and a legacy of “death and madness.”

While the Jerome/Joker theory is squashed fans can still speculate if Barbara will become a variation of Harley Quinn on Gotham.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 pm on Fox.
