Kelly Sue DeConnick is the pilot behind Captain Marvel’s current flight path in comics.

Marvel and DeConnick promoted Carol Danvers from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel with almost three years ago.

Fans have embraced the character’s new mission, new costume and new code-name. At Comic Cons and in message boards you feel the love and devotion from the Carol Corps.

Was the powerful fan base a factor in Marvel Studios finally giving the green light for a Captain Marvel movie?

How will Carol made the transition from comics to cinema?

Maybe the studio bosses should ask DeConnick?

I wanted to share again our interview with the writer from Geek Girl Con 2013

I asked DeConnick what’s the most important for filmmakers to get right about Carol in transitioning the fan-favorite Avenger from comic book to other mediums.

After saying she had never been asked that before and admitting that wouldn’t happen with a laugh but “let’s pretend” DeConnick said:

“My advice would be to remember do not mistake job for character. And I think that could happen is that we could focus on Carol’s “military background” so much…that we could make her a harpy. She could very easily be Margaret Houlihan (of M.A.S.H.) and I prefer her as Chuck Yeagher. I prefer her as a pilot with swagger and I think you have to remember that yes, she’s military, so was Chuck Yeagher. She is an adrenaline junkie. She is ruthless and driven. And she’s not adverse to breaking the rules I don’t think. Remember Carol’s an iconoclast. That would be my advice.”

Captain Marvel the comic book will be a part of a major crossover in 2015. The Black Vortex sees Carol working with Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Cyclops and All-New X-Men against Thanos and more cosmic villains.

Captain Marvel  the movie is scheduled for July 6, 2018
