Hang tough Carol Corps.

Kelly Sue DeConnick announced she’s leaving Captain Marvel after Secret Wars at her Heroes Con panel and confirmed via Twitter.

“So hard to go, but it’s time.”

DeConnick redefined Carol Danvers and inspired a devoted fan base, the Carol Corps.

Before DeConnick’s takeover, the longtime Avenger fought with the code-names Ms. Marvel, Binary and Warbird. Under DeConnick, Danvers was promoted to the new, one and only Captain Marvel, the basis for the upcoming Marvel movie.

DeConnick and the Carol Corps embraced the new costume design (by Jamie McKelvie) inspired by Danvers’ experience as a pilot. The fan-favorite writer is currently working on Captain Marvel and Carol Corps, a Secret Wars tie-in series.

No word on who will replace DeConnick on Captain Marvel. The author has two creator owned Image Comics, Bitch Planet and Pretty Deadly.
