In the ashes of a broken Justice League of America…Justice League of Canada will be born. The events of The Trinity War and Villains Month/Forever Evil will shake the foundation of every super team and hero in the DC Universe. Justice will prevail…just farther north.
DC Comics and the Toronto Star announced the new book coming in 2014 and creative team: Jeff Lemire and artist Mike McKone. Toronto native Lemire explains the roster and why this not like the other famous Canadian team:
“It’s not really like Alpha Flight, as we’re not creating a bunch of very Canadian characters,” Lemire explains. “Like those characters are all almost clichéd Canadian archetypes. This is still very much set in the regular Justice League universe and the team will still have some of the bigger named superheroes, but they will actually be located in Canada now, and there will be a couple of new members who are Canadian. So obviously as a Canadian, and as a Canadian storyteller, it’s something I’m very proud of.”
Lemire says there will be a new Canadian character and a focus of the book:
“I’m trying to make a character that reflects a real part of our cultural identity, who could be a real Canadian teenager. That’s what I’m really after with that.”
Lemire says he’s bringing back Adam Strange will a new origin for The New 52 in this series.
