It’s official – Zack Snyder will shoot a Justice League movie back to back with the Superman vs. Batman sequel to Man of Steel. Just like every bit of news from Batfleck to Wonder Woman to Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor – this latest announcement is inspiring a universe of passionate responses.
Fans can rejoice to cry, “injustice” but here’s why I have high hopes. Just like the big three icons here are three reasons why fans should wait, trust and see:
The Ben Affleck Affect When news came that Affleck was the new Batman I reminded nervous fans that this isn’t the big Ben who starred as Daredevil back when but this is the veteran filmmaker with The Town and Argo under his belt. Affleck brings up everyone’s game.
The Dark Knight Trilogy – Warner Brothers is responsible for arguably the greatest comic book trilogy every made. The studio trusted Christopher Nolan’s vision for Batman, even the controversial casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker, and now we have cinema history.
Goyer and Snyder Know The DC Universe Man of Steel was filled with subtle and not so subtle references to Lexcorp, Booster Gold, Batman and more. With the addition of Cyborg and S.T.A.R. labs comes hope of Barry Allen, The Flash. The idea of a shared universe already exists – now comes the juggling of each hero. Zack Snyder’s background includes taking Watchmen out of development oblivion and onto the big screen and with David Goyer, made Superman soar again. The team is using The Dark Knight Returns as “inspiration” for the Superman/Batman meeting.
Now the big questions are which other heroes will make the roster and which storylines could be the inspiration for the big screen version of DC’s biggest team.
