Fans can assume Thanos (the big bad behind Loki and the Chitauri’s invasion in the first film) will play a role in Avengers 2 but he may not be the main villain on the front lines fighting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
“I’m very excited about the villain, and have a lot to say about him. But if you watch my shows, the one thing I’ve never been very good at is guest stars, Whedon tells Empire Magazine, “because I’ve always been interested in the ensemble. With The Avengers, I’m still most fascinated by them.”
So now we do know the bad guy is a HIM. In a previous interview Whedon hinted that the all-powerful Thanos may be saved for the third film.
(I’m still hoping for Ultron!)
