Marvel reveals the title of the Avengers sequel will be MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON!
Marvel Studios Kevin Feige made the announcement at San Diego Comic Con along with this title logo. The sequel is scheduled for May 1, 2015.
Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the sequel.
Ultron is the greatest (and my favorite) Avengers villain. As far as new characters go Whedon has only hinted that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver would join the team. That could change given the fact that Ultron will be the villain.
In Avengers history scientist Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man who also went by the code-names Giant Man, Goliath and Yellowjacket over the years) created the artificial intelligence known as Ultron. Janet Van Dyne (aka Wasp) was his on-again, off-again girlfriend and at one point was Avengers chairperson.
Ultron created an android called the Vision to infiltrate and destroy the Avengers but Vision betrayed his creator and joined the heroes and would marry Scarlet Witch.
Earlier this year Age of Ultron was a huge limited series by Brian Michael Bendis in which Ultron had conquered the world from the future. The massive time-twisting story was game-changer for the Marvel comic universe and brought Hank Pym back to the forefront in a new Avengers A.I. series.
No word on how close the film will follow the comic book series or Avengers history so stay tuned!
How about Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker as Hank and Jan? The two Whedonverse veterans recently starred in Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing.
