Wolverine and the X-Men #42 arrives this week. It’s the finale to the series by writer Jason Aaron.

After fighting the Hellfire Club, monsters, aliens and each other it’s Graduation Day at the Jean Grey School.

As I’ve written in nearly every review of this series – Jason Aaron made this book a pure joy to read every month. He balanced action, drama, teen angst and perfect accents of humor along with Brood, Wolverine’s brother, homicidal teenage brats and even Frankenstein.

The X-Men have always been outsiders but Aaron created some truly strange and wonderful new mutants that were even more bizarre than anyone we’ve seen before. The Jean Grey School became a home for Eye-Boy, Shark Girl and even Toad found home, love, purpose and a job – school janitor.

Along with the kids – Aaron was equally wonderful at creating new sides and insights of longtime favorites. From Professor Logan to Kitty Pryde’s “pregnancy” to Storm’s “hair appointment/therapy” with Wolverine – Aaron truly ushered in a current new golden age of X-Men.

Here are some preview images from Wolverine and the X-Men #42 by Aaron with an all-star art team including Chris Bachalo, Nick Bradshaw, Pepe Larraz and Steve Sanders courtesy Marvel.

This issue will include a preview of the next volume of the series by Jason Latour and Mahmud Asrar.

Wolverine and the X-Men #42 – arrives tomorrow. Thanks Jason for an uncanny run!
