Original Sin is the big event of 2014. It’s a murder mystery with cosmic level consequences written by superstar Jason Aaron.
Murder on the moon!
The Watcher is dead.
Uatu’s home is destroyed.
His collection of alien technology, artifacts and secrets are stolen.
Marvel’s biggest heroes split up to solve the case but the killing of the ancient alien is just the beginning.
Aaron co-wrote previous big events Avengers vs. X-Men and X-Men: Battle of the Atom. The 8-part Original Sin is all Aaron with artist Mike Deodato.
“It all started with the idea of a murdered Watcher, which would put all of his most treasured secrets up for grabs. Once I grabbed hold of the story, it was up to me to figure out who killed him and why,” Aaron tells Marvel.com.
“This is basically a crime story. A murder mystery. A manhunt. But with the entirety of the Marvel Universe as its backdrop,” continues Aaron. “We’re taking all the toys out of their packaging for this one. Everyone and everything is in play. For some characters, life will never be the same again. And it’s only a matter of time before more bodies are popping up.”
S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran Nick Fury assembles a team including Captain America, Iron Man and Thor.
A separate team including Black Panther, Emma Frost, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and Punisher conduct their own investigation.
“Old Nick Fury is a big part of things. He’s sort of our lead investigator. Our Marvel U version of a grizzled old homicide detective.”
Aaron said he’s currently writing scenes with Marvel’s most infamous vigilante and the Master of the Mystic Arts.
“There’s action in space. There’s Punisher traveling to other dimensions with Dr. Strange. The murder investigation leads us to some unusual places.”
Aaron confirmed Gamora of Guardians of the Galaxy and Scott Lang of FF will appear but was silent on which villains will be part of the epic.
A prologue, Original Sin #0 by Mark Waid and Jim Cheung arrives in March followed by Original Sin #1 in April.
