A new beginning for Marvel’s First Family. After a year+ in space searching for a cure to a condition that could kill them, Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben and kids are heading back to Manhattan.

Marvel revealed James Robinson and Leonard Kirk will be the new creative team on a new Fantastic Four #1 as part of the All-New Marvel Now on USA Today.

“What I hope to do is tie in their past without making it too referential and (touch on) how the past can affect the future,” Robinson told USA Today. “While I’m not reinventing the book, I’m certainly adding a side to it we maybe haven’t seen for a while.”

For me the most exciting quote from Robinson in this story is how he will make Susan Storm Richards a character to watch:

“For me it really started to happen with John Byrne (in the 1970s and ’80s) where he started to really make Sue less of the Invisible Woman and, even though that’s her name, give her this whole range of powers and abilities around her power — to make her in many ways the strongest and most versatile member of the team.”

More highlights from Robinson:

Dr. Doom.

Frightful Four will be back over and over again in different roster variations.

Exploring the Ben Grimm/Alicia Masters romance.

Ant-Man, She-Hulk, Darla Darling aka She-Thing and the Future Foundation kids from Matt Fraction and Mike Allred’s FF series will be part of the new book.

Fantastic Four #1 arrives in February.

Robinson and artist Steve Pugh are launching an All-New Invaders in January.
