James Bond will return in Spectre.

EON Productions, MGM and Sony announced the title and cast of the 24th 007 film in the iconic film series. Daniel Craig returns as Bond for fourth time with director Sam Mendes back to direct after the critical and billion dollar success of the last adventure, Skyfall.

The title is a blast from the past. SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terror Revenge and Extortion) was an evil organization led by Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Ian Fleming’s novels.

The first teaser poster is an homage to the symbol of the ring worn by SPECTRE operatives in the Sean Connery 007 films.

The cast includes:

Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded, Revolutions) as Lucia Sciarra.

Dave Bautista (Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mr. Hinx.

Christoph Waltz, the Oscar winning star of Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds. No official word on if he’s playing Blofeld, longtime 007 enemy and leader of SPECTRE but he’s listed as Oberhauser.

Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inglorious Basterds, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) as Madeline Swann.

Andrew Scott (Moriarty on Sherlock) as Denbigh, a new member of the MI6 team at Whitehall.

Skyfall stars returning are Ralph Fiennes as the new M – head of MI6, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Ben Wishaw as Q and Rory Kinnear is back at M’s chief of staff Bill Tanner.

SPECTRE is the name of the evil organization in several Ian Fleming novels and nearly all of Sean Connery’s Bond films of the 1960’s. Fleming created Spectre and its leader Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the novel Thunderball. Sean Connery fought Spectre in Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice then George Lazenby’s Bond battled Blofeld in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The last time Bond battled Spectre was in Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 – although there was a hint that Roger Moore killed off Blofeld in the pre-title sequence in For Your Eyes Only.
