Cyclops is dead. Is it time to bring Wolverine back?
This is just fan speculation but the signs are there.
Marvel killed off the fan-favorite X-Man in 2014. In the 3 Months to Die build-up to the Death of Wolverine event, Logan was depowered, robbed of his healing factor thus triggering a slow death by adamantium poisoning. Logan’s oldest enemies lined up for shot at the killing blow in a series of arcs by Paul Cornell.
Charles Soule told Logan’s last adventure in a four-part story that took him to key moments of his past including Japan with guest star Kitty Pryde. In the end, Logan faced Doctor Cornelius, the scientists behind the Weapon X Project. Logan was left coated in molten adamantium. The X-Man was now a statue inside the mysterious metal.
The Logan we loved was gone but Wolverine still popped claws in the Marvel Universe. In the Secret Wars aftermath, Old Man Logan, the Wolverine from a future timeline, entered the main Marvel Universe and joined Storm’s team. X-23/Laura Kinney, the cloned “daughter” of Logan, took over the mantle and costume and became the All-New Wolverine, the latest in a line of legacy characters.
Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine is in Logan. Fox’s X-Men spinoff will be partly inspired by the Old Man Logan arc, introduce X-23 and introduces a new version of the Weapon X Program.
In the 2017 ResurrXion, the X-books will evolve with a new Weapon X book by Greg Pak will see Old Man Logan, Sabretooth, Deathstrike, Domino and Warpath will take on the new Weapon X Program. All-New Wolverine starring Laura will continue with writer Tom Taylor and a new arc beginning.
If the X-Men find a cure for the M-Pox killing mutants, could it be used to bring Logan back? We already saw Elixir, the resurrected mutant healer, return from the dead. Could Josh use his evolved power to resurrect Logan?
Logan opens March 3rd.
The X-Men ResurrXion launches in April.
