Civil War is the inspiration for next year’s Captain America sequel and a ew Secret Wars series. Steve Rogers and Tony Stark came down on opposite sides of the Superhero Registration Act and is escalated into a full blown war of heroes vs. heroes. Captain America eventually surrendered after seeing how innocents were caught in the crossfire.
But what if the war never ended?
Writer Charles Soule and artist Leinil Francis Yu pick up the story in this Warzone of Doom’s Battleworld.
Marvel shared this look inside the first issue and here’s the official description:
“Hero fights hero in the Warzone – and a nation stands divided. It has been six years since the fighting began. The forces of the Blue square off against the Iron, all at the command of their leaders – General Steve Rogers and President Tony Stark. When peace has failed, both sides will attempt to end the war once and for all! What is the top-secret Project Bellcurve and does it really hold the key to ending the war in one swift stroke? What damning data could undo President Stark’s administration from within? And worst of all, what unseen enemies seek to exploit the Superhuman Civil War for their own gains?”
Original series artist Steve McNiven created a variant cover for the first issue. I recently reread the epic by Mark Millar and McNiven ahead of meeting him at Emerald City Comicon earlier this year. It still has incredible impact as you watch heroes you love go to war.
