You’ve seen them as supporting players in Fantastic Four and Avengers saga but the Inhumans are going big time at Marvel!
How big? Matt Fraction and Joe Madureira big. Their own event and series big.
We’ll know a lot more after the events of Infinity #4 but at Rose City Comic Con this past weekend writer Matt Fraction explained that Inhumanity is a status quo and not an event like the Dark Reign followed Secret Invasion.
Still wondering how big? Here’s what Fraction told fans in a Marvel.com:
“This will be one of the moments where you can plant a flag and see a big change in the Marvel Universe.”
Black Bolt has been a member of the Marvel’s secret society, The Illuminati. Crystal and Medusa have been members of the Fantastic Four and Crystal has been an Avenger but most of the Inhumans have remained hidden from the rest of the world in Attilan until now. How will heroes, villains, S.H.I.E.L.D. and everyday people react to a Inhumans exposed to the world?
“I think you’re going to see a lot of different reactions, from amazed to terrified. There are people who want to hoard them and there are people who want to help them. I think you’ll see a lot of different reactions.”
The big question is why kick it off (so to speak) with Karnak? (Other than being a master martial artist.)
“He’s perfect for the story because he’s the guy that puts puzzles together.”
Olivier Coipel joins Fraction for the one-shot. Joe Madureira is Fraction’s partner for the new Inhuman series in 2014.
What’s an Inhuman? This gifted secret society is descended from humans who were products of genetic manipulation by the Kree. When an inhuman comes of age they are exposed to the Terrigen Mist which unleashing their genetic potential giving them powers and often radically altering their appearance. (Crystal’s ex-husband Quicksilver stole the Terrigen Crystals in an doomed effort to give depowered mutants their abilities back…with horrifying results and started a Silent War.)

A big question at Rose City Comic Con – how about a crossover between Lockjaw the Time Dog (the Inhumans teleporting pet) and Pizza Dog, Fraction’s creation from his Hawkeye series.
How much do I love the Inhumans? I have sketches of Black Bolt and Medusa by Mike Choi. Those are the characters that popped in my head after waiting in line for a sketch at Emerald City Comicon.
