Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns after a literally earthshaking cliffhanger:

Agent Skye and Raina are Inhumans.

Skye is actually Daisy Johnson (better known to comics readers as Quake.)

In comics Daisy’s powers are due to her father’s experiments. Kyle MacLachlan plays the scientist known as Cal aka Calvin Zabo, the twisted scientist who becomes the monstrous Mister Hyde.

Producers decided to make Daisy’s powers due to her Inhuman DNA as a way to introduce the race in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel is planning an Inhumans movie for 2018. Marvel Comics are launching Uncanny Inhumans and Attilan Rising books by Charles Soule, who’s currently writing Inhuman.

With plans for films, television shows and books which Inhumans from comics will make it on screen?

The original Royal Family:

King Black Bolt, Queen Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal and Lockjaw are the royal family and most famous Inhumans. Black Bolt’s brother is the villainous Maximus the Mad. Crystal has the most ties to the Marvel Universe. Crystal dated Johnny Storm, married Quicksilver and gave birth to a daughter named Luna, the grandchild of Magneto. Crystal (an elemental with a signature black strip in her hair is one of the most “human” of the Inhumans and could be an ambassador to the extended family.)

Inhumans lived in a secret city and upon coming of age are exposes to Terrigen Crystals which would unlock their alien DNA (Kree) and transform them, give them powers and often strange new appearances.

Black Bolt recently detonated a Terrigen Bomb which sent a cloud across the planet which transformed normal humans (who had the ancient DNA passed down to them untapped in their genes) into NuHumans.

The Royal Family will likely be saved for the big screen. With so many characters to choose from which Inhumans from comics could appear on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

The New Generation:

Back when the Inhumans still lived on the moon, Black Bolt sent a delegation of young ones to live on Earth and attend college at the University of Wisconsin during the Sean McKeever run of the series.

Tonaja is a flyer, Alaris become a tall, muscled warrior and both became members of the Royal Guard. San was the best friend of Alaris and hoped to become a member of the Royal Guard like his friend, father and grandfather. The mists turned San into a smaller, weaker, yellow-skinned creature and it caused a rift with his friend but he became an artist and dated an Earth girl.

Nahrees is an arrogant, selfish and cold-hearted with the power to generate massive electicity. Jolen can control vegetation and became a ruthless killer. These two would make extremely dangerous and unique villains.

During the Infinity event, Thanos attacked Earth. In a showdown on Attilan above Manhattan, Black Bolt detonated a Terrigen Bomb sending a cloud across the planet. Any human with dormant Inhuman DNA were cocooned and transformed into NuHumans.

The NuHumans:

These kids were ordinary humans until they were exposed to the Terrigen Cloud. Kamala Khan decided to become a super hero and became Ms. Marvel taking the former code-name of her idol, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

Inferno (Dante Pertuz) was a young musician in the U.S. heartland when Terrigenesis turned him into a being of fire with flight and fire generation and control powers.

Naja is a flying reptilian NuHuman with claws, super hearing, wings and invisibility powers.

Flint is another one of the young recruits with Earth manipulation powers and developed metal on his skin but with Quake already introduced, Jason’s powers may be too close to Skye’s.

Nur. Not every NuHuman was a teenager. Frank McGee was a 30 year veteran of the New York City Police who became an Inhuman with light projection powers and became part of Medusa’s security force.

Our picks:

Ms. Marvel is a sensation. Kamala Khan is a breakthrough character, critical favorite and hit. Khan recently guest-starred in S.H.I.E.L.D. #2, the new comic book based on the television series. Kamala is such an beloved character I can see a guest arc before flying into the Captain Marvel movie.

McGee could become an agent. With his vast experience as a New York cop and ties to the Inhuman race, Nur could be the liaison officer Coulson needs to police rogue Inhumans and keep the peace with the Royals.

The One that ties is all together:

Thane is the last remaining son of Thanos. During Infinity, Thanos invaded Earth for sole purpose of finding and killing his son. Thane was living among a hidden tribe of Inhumans.

Once global Terrigenesis hit, Thane’s power ignited and he wiped out his people of his hidden city. Thane was able to trap Thanos in a living death and head out for the stars.

Comics readers can see Thane in The Black Vortex, a Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Captain Marvel, Nova crossover.

With his ties to the big villain of The Avengers and Guardians movies, Thane could be a major player on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Marvel continues to transfer the Inhuman legacy from page to screens.

Here are some classic comics to give you an Inhumans history lesson:

Inhumans by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee is a modern classic that reintroduced the family.

Infinity is the epic event featuring Black Bolt vs. Thanos, Avengers vs. The Builders and the debut of Thane, son of Thanos.

Inhumanity is the aftermath of the Terrigen Bomb and introduction of new heroes.

Inhuman Volume One: Genesis is the new beginning for NuHumans, New Attilan and Queen Medusa by Charles Soule.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns tonight on ABC.
