The second Image Expo was a ‘mini-con’ with huge announcements from the groundbreaking publisher. Some of biggest names in the comic book industry were at the San Francisco event to unveil upcoming series:
Velvet from Ed Brubaker (Fatale) with his former Captain America artist Steve Epting.
ODY-C a sci-fi, gender-swapping new take on Homer’s Odyssey by Matt Fraction and Christian Ward.
Black Science and Deadly Class, two new series by Rick Remender (Uncanny Avengers); the first is a Frank Frazetta-inspired sci-fi epic with art by Matteo Scalera, the second a series about a high school for assassins with artist Wesley Craig.
MPG was described as “as pivotal as Fantastic Four” to Marvel Comics, by Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar and artist Duncan Fegredo.
Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour. Described by Aaron as being “about a lot of southern bastards.”
Alone which aims to “deconstruct the way a comic book works,” according to writer J. Michael Straczynski. Comic legend Bill Sienkiewicz is the artist!
The expo featured a huge announcement for The Walking Dead fans: a seven month storyline called “All Out War” that’ll appear in Robert Kirkman series and see the monthly comic increase its schedule and come out twice a month.
Image announced it will now offer DRM-free downloads of its digital releases, as of today. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision.
These major announcements follow an already stellar year of new comic book launches including Ten Grand by J. Michael Stracynzki and East of West by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta and Satellite Sam by Matt Fraction and Howard Chaykin arriving this month.
