DC Comics announced writer Robert Venditti and artist Bryan Hitch team up for a new HAWKMAN ongoing. The big announcement comes as DC continues Venditti’s exclusive agreement with the publisher.

METAL revealed an ancient rivalry between Bird and Bat tribes – will that mean Carter Hall and Bruce Wayne will become enemies or allies?

“Hawkman is one of the richest, most storied characters in comic book history, a cornerstone of the DC Universe,” says Venditti. “His adventures have taken him from ancient history to the far-flung cosmos, and everywhere in between. It’s been too long since he had a series of his own, and I’m excited to bring him back to the DC Universe.”

After Hawkman died in a limited series, Carter Hall became a central player in the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL and the HAWKMAN: FOUND one-shot as his lost journal revealed secrets of the Dark Multiverse. Hall will resume his role as an explorer of the DC Universe’s ancient and unknown. As Hawkman, Hall “is on a quest to find out the true nature of his many incarnations throughout time, but he quickly finds out that elements from those past lives want to keep that secret hidden at any cost.”

Hawkman’s comeback follows some big revelations in METAL that changed DC history. Before we go into that here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not been reading DARK NIGHTS METAL or HAWKMAN FOUND stop reading now and get to a comic book shop.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes:

Hawkman and Hawkgirl have always had a complicated origin but most recently were said to be reincarnated Egyptians with a connection to Nth metal. With METAL, the two are even older than Egypt, going back to the earliest days of humans on the planet and they duo have a connection to the ancient God Barbatos.

At the dawn of humanity several tribes emerged including a Bird, Bat, Bear and Wolf. The Judas Tribe was a rogue faction of the Birds who evolved into Batman villains: The Court of Owls.

HAWKMAN #1 arrives June 13th.
