HAPPY X-MEN HOLIDAYS

Every holiday season I love sharing special Christmas issues of the X-Men.

This year’s holiday flashback comes the same week a key issue that changes the Children of the Atom.

Uncanny X-Men #29 is a “turning point” for the mutants and a moment Brian Michael Bendis has been building up to since he took over Uncanny and launched All-New X-Men and revealed the legacy of the late Professor Charles Xavier.

The bitterly divided mutant factions united for the Last Will and Testament of Xavier this year and coped with the death of Wolverine.

So let’s reflect on moments of the past when the X-Men came together to celebrate the holidays and their extended family.

X-Men #109 was dubbed a 100 page monster issue featuring a new story by Chris Claremont plus 3 classic tales set around the holidays.

While the previous stories are all action packed with Sentinels, a demon stalking Kitty and Gladiator versus Cannonball above New York City, the main story is very moving and reminds us how Chris Claremont filled his stories with heart and humor.

One of my favorite moments is young Kitty giving Colossus a surprise kiss under the mistletoe! Never has such a big guy felt so vulnerable as Piotr blushes. Kitty would soon experience a real nightmare before Christmas against a N’Gari demon in the classic Uncanny X-Men #143.

“Ceremonies” shows the X-Men family in a snowball fight, ice skating, enjoying a date, breaking up, giving each other comfort. Comics always deliver action, thrills and battles but once in a while, a change of pace issue like this one makes you remember why you’re cheering for the X-Men to win.

Another visit to mutant Christmas past is in X-Men #165 by super team Claremont and Salvador Larroca. The mutants celebrate the holiday with a family they rescued from a car accident. Emma Frost is on the receiving end of a snowball in this hilarious and moving issue.

Thanks for visiting and supporting Comics Blend this year. As you unite with friends and family I wish you safe travels and a happy holiday season.
